Universidad Complutense de Madrid :: NILS mobility project

Abel Extraordinary Chair - Profiles

Dieter Issler

Dieter Issler

Venue: ETSI Caminos, Canales y Puertos, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain.

From: February 1st to March 31st, 2010

Dieter Issler is Senior physicist at the Division of Natural Hazards, Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, Norway.

His objetives are to exchange of know-how on mathematical description and numerical simulation of various types of gravity mass flows.

The principal goal of the proposed stay is to collaborate on the creation of a novel model of gravity mass flows, combining theoretical developments by the applicant, based on full-scale avalanche experiments in Norway and other countries, with the modeling experience and numerical know-how of the host institution

About his work:

"I am interested in dynamics and modeling of rapid gravity mass flows:

  • Coordinate development of, and measurements at, the full-scale snow avalanche test site Ryggfonn.
  • Development of theories of the basic processes in gravity mass flows (flow regimes, entrainment, etc.)
  • Development and testing of numerical models based on the new theories."
